FCAI says it’s business as usual for car dealers

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) has said that it’s business as usual for automotive brands and dealer networks in the wake of tough new restrictions announced by the Federal Government to combat the COVID-19 outbreak.

The latest measures implemented by the government to slow down the spread of the coronavirus has seen the temporary shut-down of “non-essential services”, including food courts, recreational facilities, auctions and beauty salons.

However, car dealers have not been included in these restrictions, with FCAI chief executive Tony Weber assuring local dealers that they may remain open to continue providing sales and service support to customers.

“It is largely business as usual – but with extra care and consideration for our key stakeholders,” said Weber.

“With the increasing focus on social distancing, safe and reliable private transport is essential to enable communities and businesses to continue to operate.”

While Weber confirmed it was business as usual for dealers, he did acknowledge the need to prioritize the health and safety of all staff during this time.

“However, the automotive industry rates the preservation of the health and safety of our employees, dealer network and customers as our number one priority. To this end, the industry is focused on ensuring that best practice is adopted throughout our Australian offices and dealer retail and service outlets.

“The industry is considered and adopted a number of additional hygiene and safety protocols, including extended cleaning processes, personal distancing, and contactless sales and service consultations – all with the number one priority of ensuring the safety and security of our communities.”

Weber has also assured dealers and customers that they are not expecting any delays on stock of vehicles and parts as a result of the coronavirus shutdown.

“The industry is watching the activities of parent companies across the globe, including in Europe, the USA, the UK and Asia, where production facilities in some plants have been temporarily closed.”
