Recall announced for Toyota Prius to fix seat belt reminder system glitch

Toyota have issued a recall notice for Toyota Prius and Prius V vehicles manufactured between 2015 and 2019 due to a fault in the driver’s seatbelt reminder system.

According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the driver’s seatbelt reminder system may fail to switch off after frequent use, resulting in constant chiming and warnings that may distract the driver.

“If the seatbelt reminder switch does not turn off, the visual and sound alters indicating that the seatbelt is not correctly fastened may be a distraction to the driver,” said a statement from the ACCC.

1,037 vehicles are affected by the recall, with Toyota contacting affected owners to organise a free inspection and repair.
