GM confirms return of the Hummer
The Hummer is back.
General Motors (GM) have officially revived the Hummer name, with the company announcing that their first electric pickup truck will bear the Hummer name.
After months of speculation, GM confirmed the arrival of the truck in a series of teasers, showing the Hummer name stretched across the front of the front end of a truck. The GMC nameplate can be seen in the corner of the vehicle’s main air intake slot, suggesting the Hummer name will be returned as a model name rather than a brand name.
GM have revealed some preliminary specifications for the electric vehicle (EV), with a 746kW (1000 horsepower) and 15,590Nm electric power system the headliner. It is believed that this number relates to the ‘wheel torque’ number rather than the true ‘engine torque’, but an impressive figure nonetheless.
The vehicle also has a 0-60mph time (0-97km/h) of approximately 3 seconds.
The Hummer EV will be built at the GM Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant, after GM earlier this week confirmed that the facility will be turned into an exclusively electric manufacturing facility in a US$2.2 billion renovation project.
The GMC Hummer will be officially unveiled on 20 May 2020 in Las Vegas with more information to be released then.
