CARLINE ENOGGERA

Carline Enoggera is a member of MTA Queensland located in Enoggera, North Brisbane. Carline Enoggera has been in operation since 2001 and recently went through a digital transformation due to a change in ownership.

Helen Brasington unexpectedly became the sole owner of Carline Enoggera and found herself needing to be much more involved in the business than she previously was. Helen understood the necessity of having a digital presence through a website and social media platforms and with little knowledge on how to manage this, she reached out to MTA Queensland for support.

MTA Queensland reviewed Carline Enoggera’s digital presence and found the business to have a website, Facebook account and Instagram account.

Despite the business having a website, the platform had been built be an external web developer and was out of date, non-compatible with mobile and missing fundamental functions such as a ‘contact us’ form and business information such as phone, email and opening hours. In addition to this, the website was built entirely in HTML code which meant Carline Enoggera was completely dependent on the website developer should they wish to update the website in anyway.

Carline Enoggera’s social media accounts, Facebook and Instagram, was found to be severely underused and was being run by an external marketing agency that had multiple promotions running through the platforms that were costing the business a constant stream of money, while delivering few results.

Improved Business Processes:

MTA Queensland was able to assist in improving business processes by building and creating a new updated website. A website that ranks highly on google is required to be mobile friendly, SEO friendly and updated frequently. With this in mind, MTA Queensland worked closely with a website developer to close down the existing website and in Carline Enoggera’s best interest, built a new website in WordPress; one of the most widely accepted and easily intuitive software options available. This meant that Carline Enoggera would be able to take full control of their website and update content with ease.

As part of the new website project, MTA Queensland ensured all integral components of the business were included such as services, specials, an online contact form and clickable links for phone/email. Security was also taken into consideration with an authentic business email address set up (previously Carline Enoggera used a free email service), as well as an ongoing hosting plan put in place to ensure the website was ‘secured’ and Carline Enoggera could access ongoing support if required.

Another thing MTA Queensland focused on, was educating Helen on the importance and value of social media. Carline Enoggera’s social media activity was sporadic at best, with often months between posts. This was something MTA Queensland wanted to draw attention to as something to fix as well as educate Helen on the importance of starting a dialogue with customers and followers on social media.

Attraction of Additional Customers and Expansion into New Markets:

Through MTA Queensland’s assistance, Carline Enoggera was provided with several face-to-face sessions where MTA Queensland provided extensive feedback, advise and digital support in order to attract additional customers and expand into new markets.

Educational tools provided by MTA Queensland included instructions on how to manage Carline Enoggera’s social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram as well as a thorough guide on how to manage a WordPress website. This in-depth training session covered:

  • Basic WordPress navigation
  • Adding new/updating general content
  • Posting news article
  • Updating media
  • SEO and the benefits
  • Media naming conventions
  • Linking to external sources (such as social media)
  • Basic social media operations
  • Facebook business operations
  • An overview of promotions/back end analytics
  • Step by step guide on how to post content
  • Step by step guide on how to promote posts
  • A strategic communication plan on how often content should be posted, ways to interact with customers/users, and suggestions for content.

The education and resources provided by MTA Queensland have allowed Carline Enoggera to fully embrace their Facebook and Instagram account as well as take charge of their website, updating specials and information regularly.

As well we this, the website contact form, clearly listed address and contact details which was implemented in the new website has led to an increase of online enquiries and new customers.  As a result, Carline Enoggera was able to hire an apprentice earlier this year.

Achievement of a Better Work/Life Balance While Growing the Business:

Helen made it clear that she is time poor and as a result, was concerned that she wouldn’t have the time or resources required to maintain her digital presence. MTA Queensland provided education on the amount of time required in keeping Carline Enoggera’s website and social media channels active and updated.

Carline Enoggera is a relatively small business, so MTA Queensland provided Helen with the recommendation to post something unique to each of the platforms a couple of times a week with an emphasis on linking followers back to their website in order to increase traffic and awareness. MTA Queensland also provided step-by-step instructions on how to schedule posts, and explained that work life balance, Helen could dedicate 30 minutes a week to scheduling her social media posts for that week.

Due to Carline Enoggera’s new website being built in WordPress, it ensured that it was incredibly easy to manage and required little maintenance. MTA Queensland recommended Carline Enoggera update the content or add a post once a week which would take approximately 30 minutes.

These tools and education allowed Helen to achieve a better work/life balance whilst growing their business.
