Global recall notice claims 6,000 Nissan Pathfinders in Australia

Following reports of a global recall of Nissan Pathfinder SUVs that saw some 450,000 vehicles taken off the roads around the world, it has been revealed that 6,076 vehicles in Australia have been included in the notice.

The recall relates to a faulty oil seal found in the antilock braking system (ABS) which has the potential to cause an electrical short that may lead to a fire starting.

In affected vehicles, the ABS warning light will display on the vehicle’s dashboard. If the light remains illuminated for more than ten seconds, drivers are urged to park the car, and have it towed to the nearest Nissan dealership for closer inspection.

There have been no reports of fires occurring due to this issue in Australia, however owners of affected vehicles are encouraged to visit their preferred Nissan dealership for a free inspection and repair.

A statement released by Nissan Australia revealed the affected vehicles included the MY2016-2018 Nissan Pathfinder petrol and hybrid vehicles.

“Nissan is committed to the safety, security and satisfaction of our customers and their passengers,” said the statement.

“Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign on certain MY2016-2018 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles to replace the Antilock Braking System (ABS) actuator.

“Once parts availability is confirmed, owners will receive a notification letter asking them to bring their vehicle to an authorised Nissan dealer to have the remedy work completed at no cost for parts or labour.”
