2007-2014 Mitsubishi Triton added to Takata airbag recall

Mitsubishi has issued an urgent recall for all 2007-2014 ML and MN Mitsubishi Triton vehicles in the latest takata airbag related recall.

57,025 vehicles are affected by the recall as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) continues to take vehicles fitted with Takata airbags off the road.

According to the recall notice owners have been advised to stop driving their vehicles immediately and arrange for a replacement to be fitted at their earliest convenience.

Mitsubishi Motors will perform a replacement free of charge and will organise to send a technician to the vehicle or have the vehicle towed to the nearest Mitsubishi dealership, so the driver does not need to drive the vehicle to the dealership.

Affected owners can contact Mitsubishi directly to organise the replacement.

According to the ACCC, the defective Takata airbag becomes more of a risk as the vehicle gets older and is subject to high temperatures and humidity. If the defective airbag is triggered in a collision, the metal inflator housing may explode.

All drivers are encouraged to check if their vehicle have been affected by the Takata airbag recall by visiting ismyairbagsafe.com.au.
