Potential brake failure leads to Mercedes G-Class recall

Mercedes-Benz have issued a recall notice for all 2011-2018 G-Class model vehicles after tests showed a potential brake failure when exposed to certain environments.

The recall notice affects 451 vehicles in Australia according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and comes after it was discovered that the brake lines had the potential to crack when driven on rough roads.

“Strong vibrations such as driving on corrugated roadway, could cause the brake lines in the ABS hydraulic unit to crack, resulting in brake fluid leaking and affecting the vehicle’s stopping distance,” says the recall notice.

All affected customers have been urged to take their vehicles to their preferred Mercedes-Benz dealership for a free repair.

The most recent recall notice comes in the wake of a recall for Mercedes-Benz earlier this year that affected 975 2019 Sprinter model vehicles.

The June recall was in relation to a software fault that caused the vehicle’s rear external lights to malfunction and dim or fail completely.

All Sprinters sold between 1st March 2019 and 20th August 2019 are included in the recall and affected owners can also take affected vehicles to their preferred dealership for a free repair.
