BMW expands 3 series portfolio with the launch of the touring

BMW Group Australia will expand its 3 Series model line up with the introduction of the all-new 3 Series Touring that will go on sale in Australia from October 2019.

Priced at $73,900, the latest generation 330i Touring combines new chassis technology and an upgraded powertrain. There are new interior and exterior design features, and the latest driver assistant technologies.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 190 kW of power between 5,000 to 6,500 rpm, and 400 Nm of torque between 1,550 to 4,400 rpm.

Compared to the predecessor, the new BMW 3 Series Touring has a 76mm increase in length, 16mm increase in width and 8mm increase in height.

Inside, the control panel in the centre console features the start/stop button and the iDrive controller. Located close to the gearshift lever is the Driving Experience Control switch unit. There’s a 12V socket, a USB port, and a wireless smartphone charging tray comes as standard.

Extended proportions of the vehicle mean more shoulder room for the driver and front passenger, an increase of 11mm of leg room for the rear passengers, as well as extra head room for all occupants. The rear seats are now capable of fitting two child seats with ISOFIX units now positioned at the outer edges of the seats.

There’s 500 litres of luggage capacity and boot capacity is capable of further expansion due to the 40:20:40 split folding rear seats. A maximum of 1,510 litres can be achieved via a touch of a button found on the control panel located in the boot.

Automatic tailgate operation with Comfort Access allows for hands-free operation of the boot. A panoramic glass roof can be optioned. The two-part glass structure along with the interior blind operates electronically.

Safety equipment includes Driving Assistant professional with Steering and Lane control assistant, and Parking Assistant Plus including Reversing Assistant – which records the last 50 metres of forward travel and is capable of navigating the same path in reverse.

There’s also the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, which can action functions and deliver information to the driver. BMW says the range of functions will be expanded with updates available through smartphone or in-car Remote Software Upgrade. An M Sport package or Luxury Line package is available.
