BENTLEY UNVEILS ALL-NEW FLYING SPUR

This is Bentley’s new Flying Spur Grand Tourer. It’s an all-new vehicle, a ground-up development that the company says ‘pushes the boundaries of both technology and craftsmanship to deliver segment-defining levels of performance and refinement’.

A bold claim, but if you’re Bentley, then you probably have a strong argument there.

Certainly, the new Flying Spur looks like it should deliver with Bentley’s new sculptural design language giving the car a modern, muscular flavour.

Tech features include electronic All-Wheel Steering couple with Active All-Wheel Drive and Bentley Dynamic Ride. New three-chamber air springs allow for a greater range of suspension adjustment between limousine-style and sporting levels of control.

Driver assistance systems include Traffic Assist, City Assist and Blind Spot Warning. The body itself features multi-material construction.

At the heart of the Flying Spur is an enhanced version of Bentley’s 6.0-litre, twin-turbocharged W12, mated to a dual-clutch eight-speed transmission. Bentley says the new TSI engine delivers 626bhp and 900Nm with cracking figures of 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 333km/h.

Inside, as you would expect, it’s luxury mixed with technology everywhere. There’s single and veneer wood options, fluted leather seating and three-dimensional diamond quilted leather door inserts combining with HD digital instrument panel display, a rotating centre console with a 12.3-inch digital touchscreen, and a remote-control touch screen for rear passengers.

The ‘Flying B’ mascot is given some tech treatment too – for the first time in modern memory, it’s retractable and rises from beneath a Bentley badge. Nice.
