Electric Vehicle R&D Centre in Brisbane

Queensland based Tritium is staying ahead of the game when it comes to electric vehicles (EVs), taking notice of the car manufacturers around the world who are announcing more and more electric vehicles, meaning Australia will join the uptake sooner or later.

Tritium is growing at a remarkable rate and have just opened a large, brand-new innovation centre in Brisbane. The Tritium E-Mobility Innovation Centre will enhance the business’s impressive international growth, which is following the trajectory of EV growth globally.

The innovation centre will help increase production rates and assist with reducing timeframes for products going to market, and at the same time support the development of new technologies shaping the EV revolution across the globe.

Tritium is already highly successful in its production of the EV charging stations and is responsible for fast charging infrastructure behind Queensland’s Electric Super Highway. Tritium produced its first fast charger in 2014, which is now installed in almost 30 countries.

More recently, the company announced the most powerful EV charger in the world which is being introduced across Europe, and is capable of a 350 kilometre range from a 10 minute charge.

Tritium has carved its place as a world leader in the technology and with the innovation centre, they will continue to drive forward leading the ‘charge!’

Chief technology officer James Kennedy said the Tritium team are employing an engineer every week, on average, which is necessary to meet demand for enhanced fast, high-power charging.

Tritium has been granted US$3.2 million from the Department of Energy in the United States. They will use the money to fund a project at the innovation centre that will look to developing an extremely fast charging system that can connect directly to the grid.

Kennedy said, “By pushing the boundaries of innovation in infrastructure, we’ll continue to re-define the possibilities for E-mobility and pave the road ahead for the EV sector.”

Tritium has also opened an innovation centre in Amsterdam, which will primarily focus on testing interoperability and enable advances in charging and batteries for EVs. This centre will also focus on the needs of the European automotive industry and is being used by original equipment manufacturers.
