CASE STUDY: Self-Driving Cars 101 – Health Haven or Death Dealer?
Presenter: Prof. Michael Milford, Chief Investigator, Australian Centre for Robotic Vision, QUT and MTA Institute Board member

Self-driving cars have the potential to be one of the most disruptive technologies especially in areas of public health. Assessing their impact is challenging
because their primary potential benefit of drastically reducing the road toll is potentially offset by secondary negative effects, such as increasing heart disease through less walking. Learn about:

• The history behind self-driving cars
• Who’s doing it and how it works
• The range of scenarios for how they could impact public health

CROSS INDUSTRY PANEL DISCUSSION: Driverless Cars in Healthcare – For Better or Worse?
Panellists:
Dr Brett Dale, Group Chief Executive, Motor Trades Association of Queensland and Prof. Michael Milford, Chief Investigator, Australian Centre for Robotic Vision, QUT and MTA Institute Board member

It’s predicted that 1.4 million lives will be saved annually if we were to implement autonomous vehicles (AV) across the globe. We can expect to see AV as mainstream technology by 2025, but what are the implications? This panel will discuss the potential and limitations of AV and what learnings can be applied to healthcare:

• AV and the Law – implications around ethics, liability, inequality and accessibility
• Mobility – the pros and cons
• How it will impact the workforce
• Will AV really reduce car crashes?
• Where you might see AV in healthcare
