Feedback requested regarding sharing of motor vehicle service and repair information
On Tuesday 12 February, a consultation paper which examines and calls for the establishment of a mandatory scheme for the sharing of motor vehicle service and repair information previously only accessible to ‘authorised’ repairers was released.
Currently the majority car dealers do not share software information with repairers who are not ‘authorised’.
Assistant Minister for Treasury and Finance Zed Seselja said enacting a mandatory information sharing scheme as recommended by the consultation paper would support Australian small business and put downward pressure on the cost of vehicle repairs “ensuring the best deal for families when getting their car repaired.”
The paper recommends mandating the sharing of services and repair information with all repairers Australia wide.
The Australian Automotive Dealer Association (AADA) welcomes the release of the Government’s consultation paper for a mandatory scheme on the sharing of motor vehicle service and repair information and looks forward to working with the Government to inform the details of a service and repair information sharing regime.
“Franchised new car Dealers need a strong independent repairer network, because the task of repairing and maintaining the entire vehicle fleet is too big a task for our members alone,” AADA CEO David Blackhall said.
MTA Queensland is requesting feedback from members for a submission regarding this topic.
