MTA Queensland encourages flood-affected members to seek financial assistance if required

The Motor Trades Association of Queensland (MTA Queensland) is truly overwhelmed by the extensive damage and destruction of the current flood disaster and are pleased to see the Palaszczuk Government ramping up its efforts to support North Queenslanders affected by the worse flooding the region has seen in decades.

With the past few days proving to be incredibly difficult for North Queenslanders with many areas still badly affected by flooding, financial assistance has been extended to all flood-affected people in Townsville.

Acting Communities Minister Shannon Fentiman has said, “This continued heavy rain and flooding has damaged homes, isolated communities and displaced people from their homes.

“We know that many people across Townsville need Emergency Hardship Assistance grants to help them meet their immediate needs as this disaster continues to unfold.

“These grants, through jointly-funded Commonwealth/State Disaster Relief Funding Arrangements (DRFA), are now available to help cover the costs of essential items – such as food, medication and clothing – for people directly impacted by this monsoonal trough.

“Up to $180 per person, to a maximum of $900 for a family of five or more, is provided to people experiencing genuine financial hardship as a result of flooding.”

Residents who have been affected by the flooding can go to www.communityrecovery.qld.gov.au or download the Self Recovery app for information on to apply for grants, including Emergency Hardship Grants.

The Queensland government has vowed to continue monitoring and assessing the needs of Townsville and other communities as this weather event progresses.
