Volkswagen recalls thousands of illegal vehicles

Volkswagen is recalling approximately 6,700 vehicles due to illegally selling around 17,000 pre-production vehicles not approved by authorities for customer use.

The scandal which is currently putting Volkswagen in hot water is said to cover certain vehicles produced from 2006 until as late as this year in Europe and North America.

It’s believed that the pre-production models were manufactured to test and showcase at various events before market launch, but were not intended to be sold to the public. Instead they were meant to be recycled, crushed or modified for compliance.

Out of the 6,700 vehicles currently being recalled, it is reported that some of the vehicles may only need new media interface software installed whilst others could be so different from their intended models, that they may have required crushing at the time of the sale.

It’s reported that Volkswagen has been aware of this issue since 2016, and they are still suffering from the massive diesel-gate scandal which involved selling vehicles that were fitted with illegal emissions software.
