2023 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Revealed
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz B-Class has been revealed, bringing a revised look and upgraded interior technology when it arrives locally in Q3 next year.
Newly designed LED headlights, sporty bumper, and radiator grille give the new B-Class an eye-catching look, complemented by externally flush-mounted wheels with an additional four new rim designs and a choice of ten different solid/metallic or special exterior paint finishes.
The interior of the new B-Class is practical and spacious, dominated by the dual-screen display consisting of a 7-inch instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch head unit as standard. The B-Class also gets an additional USB-C outlet, plus more USB charging power.
The new generation of MBUX has a more sophisticated voice assistant, which can also explain and assist with vehicle functions. Mercedes-Benz says, for example, the assistant can tell you how to connect your smartphone and where to find the first-aid kit.
Elsewhere in the cabin, there’s a redesigned centre console, a new steering wheel with standard Nappa leather and optional heating, and new interior trim appliques with the star pattern.
The new B-Class has also been given an update in terms of safety assistance, with smoother programming for the lane-keep assist, while the optional Trainer Manoeuvring Assist automatically regulates the steering angle to make reversing easier.
For 2023, the entire petrol line-up has been electrified with a 48V mild-hybrid system and belt-driven starter-generator (RSG).
Mercedes-Benz says the RSG “reduces noises and vibrations during starting procedures compared to conventional starters”, while it also allows the B-Class to switch off its engine during “steady cruising” to save fuel.
Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid B250e has gained a more powerful 80kW electric motor (up 5kW), and a faster standard-fit 11kW AC charger – but its 160kW/450Nm total output is unchanged, along with its 67-77km electric driving range claim.
While eight petrol, diesel and hybrid engines are available in Europe, Australia is likely to retain the sole choice of the petrol B180, powered by a 100kW/200Nm 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive.
Local pricing will be confirmed closer to launch.
