BMW’s flagship M8 Competition Coupé and Gran Coupé models will arrive in Australia later this year, with a range of new colours and features.

Exterior changes are limited largely to a new 20-inch Star-spoke alloy wheel design and ‘Shadow Line’ dark inserts for the adaptive laser headlights. Special BMW Motorsports badging is also standard for the new year, celebrating the 50th anniversary of BMW M.

A total of seven colour variants are available for the two models including four new variants of the high-quality Frozen finishes. Options include Skyscraper grey metallic, Brooklyn grey metallic, Isle of Man green Metallic, BMW Individual Tanzanite Blue metallic, Frozen Pure grey metallic, Daytona Beach Blue and Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic.

Moving inside, the centre infotainment display in the M8 Competition model now measures 12.3 inches, rather than the previous 10.25 inches.

Standard equipment offering includes parking Assistant including reversing assistant, telephony with wireless charging and the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system with 16 speakers and 1400 watts of power.

The new model is now available with optional M Carbon bucket seats from the smaller M3 and M4, featuring exposed carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic sections, large bolsters, and illuminated M8 badges on the integrated headrests. The chairs are heated and electrically adjustable.

The standard-fit ‘M sports seats’ can now be had in a combination of Merino leather and Alcantara, or a new two-tone Black and Sakhir Orange colour options. When the leather and Alcantara seat trim option is selected, BMW also adds black Alcantara to the instrument panel and upper areas of the door sills.

Under the bonnet, the revised M8 Competition retains the current car’s 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged ‘S63’ petrol V8, sending 460kW and 750Nm to the road through an eight-speed automatic transmission and a switchable M xDrive all-wheel-drive system. BMW claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.2 seconds for the Coupe and Grand Coupe.

Pricing for the M8 Competition Gran Coupé starts at $359,900, and the M8 Competition Coupé from $362,900 (excluding on-road costs.).

The new BMW M8 Competition range is due to arrive in Australian showrooms in mid-2022.
