2015-2018 Volkswagen Amarok recalled

Volkswagen Group Australia has recalled 19,936 examples of its Amarok Ute due to a potential issue with the cable for the spare wheel winch.

The affected vehicles were sold between 1 August 2016 and 1 March 2019, stamped model years 2015 – 2018.

According to the recall notice issued with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), “the cable for the spare wheel winch can be weakened and snap when used under certain conditions (extreme dirt/dust exposure). The spare wheel will then only be secured by the secondary securing strap.”

“If the spare wheel detaches, this may result in an accident and injury or death to other road users.”

Volkswagen will be contacting affected consumers to organise an inspection and repair, free of charge.

Owners of affected vehicles can also contact the Volkswagen Recall Campaign Hotline on 1800 504 076 (Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 8pm AEST) or visit  https://www.volkswagen.com.au/app/locals/find-dealer
