Exhaust heatshield issue leads to Toyota LandCruiser recall

Toyota Australia has activated a recall for model year 2016 – 2018 LandCruiser 70 vehicles due to a fault with the exhaust heatshield.

The LandCruiser 70 is equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) system which is installed to perform a periodic regeneration cleaning process.

Due to the way the DPF system has been installed, it is important that drivers avoid vegetation where possible to avoid the build-up of vegetation that may accumulate around the underbody and exhaust system of the vehicle.

A build-up of vegetation may lead to it combusting if it is not removed as per the instruction manual.

The latest recall affects 22,971 vehicles built between June 2016 and November 2018.

Toyota are in the process of contacting all affected vehicle owners to organise a free inspection and modification.

Upon inspection, modified heatshields will be installed to parts of the vehicle’s exhaust area. The DPF manual regeneration customisation mode will also be enabled, which will allow owners to perform manual regeneration prior to going off-road.

Affected owners may contact their local Toyota dealer or the Toyota Recall Campaign Helpline on 1800 987 366 if they have further questions.
