The new and largest member of the Land Rover Defender family, the eight-seat 130, is heading down under, priced from $124,150 plus on-road costs.

While a full list of inclusions is yet to be released, a “host of exterior and interior design enhancements and technologies distinguish the new Defender 130, uniquely balancing comfort with customary Defender durability and capability.”

The model will be offered in SE specification only with a choice of diesel (D300) or petrol (P400) engines – both based around 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engines, with 48-volt mild-hybrid systems, eight-speed automatics and all-wheel drive.

The D300 quotes outputs of 221kW and 650Nm, while the P400 offers 294kW and 550Nm – good for a 0-100km sprint time of 7.5 and 6.6 seconds respectively.

To provide greater interior space, the Defender 130 has been stretched by 340mm over the Defender 110, taking its length to 5,358mm long with the spare tyre. The increase in body length retains the Defender’s unstoppable off-road capability, with three rows of full-size seating in a 2+3+3 arrangement to carry a total of eight passengers.

The Defender 130 has its own colour pallet, with a new, exclusive Sedona Red option ensuring the vehicle stands out in a line-up. The exterior is complemented by an Extended Bright Pack, which provides a distinct exterior design with Ceres Silver Satin finish around all lower body cladding and front and rear skid plates in Noble Chrome.

Turning inside, the interior design features new colour and material options, as well as a larger 11.4-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, and keyless entry. Electronic air suspension and cabin air purification will also come as standard.

Orders for the 2023 Land Rover Defender 130 will open in Australia on 1 August 2022, with local launch timing to be confirmed. Further specifications will be released closer to release.
